Johnny Appleseed and Aggie Day

This past week at school was a very fun week. We celebrated Johnny Appleseed all week. The kids loved getting to do all kinds of apple activities. On Wednesday of this week, my class and all the other classes in our pod set up an apple tasting station. We listened to Mrs. Busha tell us a little bit about Mr. Appleseed and then the students  got to get three different types of apples. The students got to taste a green, a yellow, and a red apple. We when all were finished we graphed our data and compared it with other classes. We have an awesome time learning about John Chapman.

On Friday we had Aggie Spirit day. We played Boaz on Friday night which is one of our biggest games during football season. Although we didn't win the most spirited class, we showed a lot of spirit. I painted all the students faces and we learned some aggie cheers.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Down on the Farm

Today was a very busy Friday! Friday is test day in our classroom and today farm animals visited APS. We had a great time but by the end of the day we were all worn out! We managed to get all of our test in, go to farm day, have our art class, and celebrate a birthday. Here are some pictures of our fun Friday. Also, I put some pictures at the end of a reading tool I use in the classroom. Just wanted to share. It is nothing special but it keeps the students engaged. Happy Friday!

Wanted to share!

My school along with many others is using GO Math this school year. I am still trying to figure out how to teach it. In my classroom we start with the problem of the day first during math. I was letting them write it in their math journals but that was talking to long. Then I decided to just let them turn and talk to their partner and solve the POD together. Well I had some students doing all the talking. So I put some expo markers in their bucket on their tables. I have the POD under my hover cam when they come in from PE. They know to read it first, read it with their partner, and then take an expo marker and work out the problem on their desk. It comes off easily and the students LOVE it!. If you have any tips on how you are teaching GO math I would love to hear them.

Here are some pictures of my boys and girls working on the POD:

Successful two weeks!

We have had a wonderful first two weeks of school. My kiddos are so sweet and smart! I have an awesome bunch this year. Of course we have had a few challenges but nothing we can't handle. I have one student in my room who could not be a better fit for me and my classroom. Some of the teachers I teach with tend to joke with me about how OCD I am and how clean my room always is. They think it is very funny that I choose to sweep during my planning time, and clorox my desk EVERYDAY. Well this year I was blessed with a little girl in my room that is just like me. I think she could be my child. She is my little helper. Her mom was so sweet and got us a few cleanning supplies to use in our classroom.  I have a great group of parent this year as well. I received many things from my wishing tree in my classroom. Thank you parents!

Here are a few pictures from the first two weeks of school. I hope everyone ejnoys this three day weekend and I hope the start of your school year has been as good as mine!
