Going into Space

This week  we have being studying space. We have learned all about astronauts and what their jobs are in space. We got to watch some cool videos from the NASA website too. On Friday, we did a neat experiement. The word Experiement was one of our amazing words this week so this worked out perfect. I learned this experiement from one of my great college professfors. You take two film containers and alka seltzer. Put a little water in one container and a lot in the other. Have the kids predict which container they think will launch higher. You can make a chart or graph (this week in math we were working with graphs) Go outside drop the alka seltzer in the container and turn it over. It will lauch the container into the air. I told the kids we were going to launch our own ROCKET.. It went great and the kids loved it. My year in 2nd grade is going great so far :) I am so blessed to get to teach at such a wonderful school and with such a great bunch of women. Here are a few pictures from the rocket launch.

Getting the Hang of it....

We are in the third week of school and things are still going pretty well. Today was a little frustrating because I finally accepted that my Centers are not working the way they should. I found that I was putting to much work in them and the students did not have time to finish everything. I have decided to have different things to do during the week and they just have to have everything done by Friday. I give them a station ticket and it tells the students what they have to complete throughout the week. I will  check this ticket on Friday and send the station work home. I really hope this works!! I have never did stations like this and I am hoping for the best.  On the other hand,  I wanted to post a picture of something that I added to my room. My students and I say this poem every morning. It is a great behavior tool.

Meet the Teacher Monday: Mrs. Wilson

I am a little late posting for teacher week but why not better late then never! Here is a little about me.....

I am 23 years old and happily married to my wonderful husband Bobby. We have been together for 8 years married for 1. This is my second year to teach. My first year I taught 1st grade and I was the only first grade teacher. We were a tiny school! I had the opportunity to move to a school system that is closer and more stable. This year I am teaching 2nd grade and I love it.  I think 2nd grade is going to become my favorite grade. I absolutely love my job and know I was called to be a teacher. Some of my favorite things are: the Twilight and Hunger Game series, reality TV, sour candy, sushi, twitter, Tory Burch, Pinterest, teaching zumba, technology, Justin Bieber (yes, I have Bieber Fever) Alabama football Roll Tide, and Duke Basketball. Bobby and  I are not yet parents, but we do have a four legged child. Duke is our beloved Rat Terrier. He is of course named Duke because I am a Duke Basketball fan. Bobby and I just purchased our first home. So along with me changing jobs, we are remodeling a house.

Hope you enjoyed reading a little about me!

Something new

Today was the first day of school and it was a success!! All the planning and time spent at the school on the weekends paid off. There were a few unexpected things during the day like a fire drill but it was a great day. My group of boys and girls seem to be a fun and exciting group. I did some improvements in my classroom right before school started. I can tell I am going to always be adding something to my room throughout the year. Here are some of my improvements....

My Classroom is complete

My classroom is done! Now, all I have left to do is get things together for orientation. I think I have decided on a bird theme for my room.  Let me know what you think.

Lets Tweet about it

I have been working hard in my classroom trying to get it ready for the first day of school. Every teacher knows the saying "Beg, borrow, and steal" and that is what I recently did. My sister teaches at the Kindergarten school in the same system I am in. I was at her school helping her in her classroom and I stumbled across this very cute classroom. I am big into technology  and I saw the saying "Something to TWEET about" I decided I had to have this for my classroom. I have been working about three hours tonight getting the scrapbook paper together, cutting out the birds, and finding a different piece of paper to make the wings out of!  I took some pictures of the classroom and I will share them. When I have my door finished I will post some pictures :)    (Sorry it is blurry)

Long time no see

It has been a while since I have posted.. A lot has changed since the last day of school. I moved to a different school which means different school system. I could not be happier though. When I first graduated from college, Albertville Primary school allowed me to fill a maternity leave. It was a wonderful experience and I knew I would love to have a full time teaching position there some day. Two years later and I am now employed as a 2nd grade teacher at APS. I have been spending a lot of time getting my classroom ready. I am down to about two weeks left! On top of moving my classroom and getting it ready, my husband and I decided to buy a house! We are super excited about it and ready to get it remodeled and move it. I can't wait to blog about my new group of students and the adventures and APS.....
